You get me, you really get me

I love the work of Mike Monteiro and this new one available at 20x200 is so perfect it scares me:

So much great art, so little money

Damn, for a long time I haven't really liked much of the stuff coming from 20x200 and now I like it all. Smaller sizes of these prints are extremely affordable but I'm all about the big art which puts them out of my league.

I'll take it.

Love everything about this art arrangement from 20x200:

FYI for anyone who's feeling guilty about not getting me a birthday gift, it's on sale for $1200.

Anatomically correct.

A very cool poster from Ork Posters:

I'm also a big fan of the Great Lakes Poster:

Slightly less satanic.

Forgot to mention that I also picked up this cute little Wary Meyers print at Urban Outfitters (no longer on their site):

I'd like to think the dear anthropomorphic raccoon will balance out the evil whale but now that I look at it again, perhaps his spyglass sends a message of suspicious surveillance. Ah well, perhaps this is a good way to prepare the kid for being a teenager.

Satan in the nursery.

Well, I was looking for unique art for the kids' room and I found a really great print at Urban Outfitters this weekend. It's not as big as I had wanted but I thought it was interesting, a touch surreal and still child-friendly.

However, apparently my taste is children's art is a little off because I just found out that the title of the work is "The Devil Whale" by Jen Lobo. I thought he seemed friendly and perhaps a little mischievous but I guess I was blind to his purely evil intentions for that ship and its poor crew.

Oh well, it's still going up and hopefully won't cause any (lasting) trauma for the poor kid.

The Red Balloon.

Such a cute image. Would be great for a kid's room.

Literary posters.

These please and tempt me:

The search is on.

Looking for interesting, oversized, affordable art for a child's room. Much harder than it should be.

Some black-and-white photography picks:

The winner so far is the rabbit serving the kittens. Surreal, mildly disturbing yet still somehow adorable.

I'm not just showing off for the new people.

It's been a slow work day.

I absolutely love, LOVE the work of Tebe Interesno (via Graphic Exchange):

Fun with font.

Came across this image (above is just a piece of it) the other day via boing boing, printed it off on my work printer, did a little scissors-and-tape job (my crafting skills thereby stretched to their limit), glued it onto a sheet of brown paper package wrap, tossed it into an oversized Ikea frame, hung it in my bathroom and called it art.

Apparently, poor RW has been quite distracted reading it while peeing. From what I can tell, the great prose is taken from the writing of HP Lovecraft.

Non-traditional nursery art.

Let's all give a good hardy bundlejoycozysweet "Welcome back!" to my uterus, once again taking control of the keyboard and posting for the child-related enjoyment of one-and-all. Or not, but rest of you can just pipe down and put up with this ok? Trust me, no one wants to argue with the uterus. It's like I'm suffering from uterus-related Stockholm Syndrome. Seriously. Send help.

Anyway, if smoking bears aren't your thing, I've been digging around good old all posters.com to find some other non-sicky-sweet, non-licenced-product, aesthetically-pleasing and affordable art for kids. In other words, the opposite of this. Warning, click at own risk.

Though I'm not normally a big fan but Andy Warhol has some cool, colourful stuff:

Babar is a loser. Vintage Tintin comics:

Artist Edward Lear has some slightly-creepy-in-a-Victorian-way, India ink alphabet drawing and lymeric illustrations:

The gentle iconic images of artist Yoshitomo Nara:

Stay tuned for further posts on the decor whims of a bodily organ.

Sometimes it's the little things.

I've never felt this way about a key rack.

That wallpaper is pretty brilliant too.

Quilt inspiration.

Quilting is one of those crafty things I always thought I could get behind. It seems pretty straight-forward with some room for flexible levels of creativity. Of course, I haven't actually used a sewing machine since Grade 7 but I was pretty good at it then so I have faith that I could get back on the horse pretty easily. Quilts like this make me want to do it sooner than later.

Oops, lost the source for the first one. The second two are Bookhou, who's entire site I covet.

Everybody likes the snappy worker.

Vintage motivational posters. So much cooler and more effective than the ones they use to try to get me motivated around here.

I hope he's got me down for it in his will.

My brother has this framed print in his apartment over his fireplace:

He got found it in a shop in Victoria years ago and from the moment I first saw it I've been trying to find ways to steal it.

It's hard to tell from the pic by the bunny is sorta starring down into his own pants/boxers. I'm not sure why but the thought of a bunny checking his junk is very amusing to me. I probably need help.

So it turns out that the art is by German artist Michael Sowa who is also responsible for this Amelie favorite:

The absurdist nature of his stuff is great.

How perfect would these be in a kids room too? Not too sicky sweet but definitely adorable and, as a bonus, affordable so if they get hit with some projectile bodily fluids no one is going to cry.

Source: Beach Bungalow 8

Update: apparently I am just a complete perv. It seems the bunny is wearing a dress (at least according to the name of the image on Art.com) and not boxers. Of course, the gender of the rabbit is at least still in question so maybe I'm not totally off.

I rasterbated Chairman Mao.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, bored with the current art situation and dying to try out the much-posted-about Rasterbator I put this classic pic of the fabulous Guerrilla-warlord-cum-fashion-icon Chair Mao through the process to create a 25 page black-and-white image I now have to piece together using my sub-par puzzle skills.

Good times. This is also the weekend we attempt to bring cement bricks into the cutting edge of home decor. Pray for Mojo.

A guilty DIY endorsement.

This terribly cute art caught my eye yesterday and my immediate thought was that they'd make a brilliant DIY piece. I feel guilty saying so because I believe strongly in supporting artists, but I also love having lots of art and don't have the cash to keep up with my tastes right now. I would definitely prefer to have an original but for those with a limited cashflow, something like this would be very achievable even for someone like me few creative skills.
